Local basketball stars shine in new season opener

Jalil White leads Temple to double-double victory

Wildwood Catholic High School graduate Jalil White kicked off his college boys basketball season with a pair of impressive double-doubles to help Temple to a pair of victories.

In Temple’s 85-65 win over Maryland Eastern Shore, White showed off his all-around game with 15 points, 14 rebounds and two caps. He followed that up with a double-double, scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and three assists to help his team to a 75-68 win over Navy.

Carlos Lopez Jr. contributes for St. Francis

Carlos Lopez Jr. a local player at Egg Harbor Township High School left his mark on the University of St. Francis’ season opener. Lopez Jr. contributed eight points despite St. Francis’ 75-44 loss to UCLA. He contributed four points and two assists in St. Francis’ 82-59 win over Santa Clara.

Elijah Jones impresses for El Paso, Texas

Elijah Jones of Pleasantville showed off his offensive prowess in the season opener for Texas El Paso. Jones had 19 points, five rebounds and three caps in his team’s 120-71 win over McMurry. He continued his hot streak, scoring 19 points again and contributing three steals and two rebounds to help his team to a 123-72 win over the Academy of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.

Keith Palek III Joins Western California University of Pennsylvania

St. Augustine Prep alumnus Keith Palek III played a key role in Penn State Western California’s opener. Palek III scored seven points in a 60-43 win over Fayetteville State. He followed that up with a strong performance against Bowie State, scoring a game-high 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists to help Penn State win 82-61.
