Ole Miss Women’s Soccer Defeats Ole Miss in Historic Comeback Victory
Oxford, Mississippi – The Ole Miss women’s soccer team (6-4-2, 2-2-1 sec.) defeated the Tigers for the first time in the regular season.
Kelly Brady scored her third game-winning goal, her seventh of the season, and Aubrey Mister scored her first goal of the year to help the Rebels win 2-1. Jenna Kemp and Avery Brown both had assists on Brady’s goal, the first of the season for both.
Addie Yelton picked up her first career win in goal and had one save.
Missouri got on the board first with a penalty kick opportunity in the 14th minute. It was their first penalty kick of the season.
Missouri jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Rachel Kutra was red-carded in the 21st minute after knocking Brady to the ground as she raced toward the goal from outside the box. The foul forced the Tigers to play with just 10 players on the field for the remainder of the game.
Mistral tied the game in the 28th minute when he carried the ball past a defender and fired a shot into the upper left corner of the goal from 25 yards out.
Each team scored a goal at halftime.
Ole Miss controlled the ball well, keeping the ball in the front half of the field for most of the second half. In the 69th minute, Kemp laid the ball off to Brown, who sent it all the way into the box just in front of the goal, where they made another breakthrough. Brady dove behind a defender to head the ball, which grazed the keeper off the line and the keeper’s fishhook save came off the line to give the Ribbons the lead.
The Tigers applied pressure late in the game, taking two shots on goal in the final minute and a half, but Ole Miss managed to stop the play to earn the win.
Ole Miss will travel to Starkville for the Magnolia Cup on Sunday.
